Below are links to my solutions for various textbook problems from my first year of physics graduate study at UNC. Please feel free to use them as you see fit, subject to the disclaimer below. If you found a mistake, and would like to fix it, great! Shoot me an email (levyb (at) unc.edu), and I’ll add a note.
Pathria & Beale – Statistical Mechanics Solutions
Jackson – Electrodynamics Solutions
Schwinger – Electrodynamics Solutions
Sakurai – Quantum Mechanics Solutions
Goldstein – Classical Mechanics Solutions
Disclaimer: Although most of these solutions are graded, and I did my best to only post solutions that received decent feedback, I can in no way guarantee the correctness of any of this work. In fact, I can absolutely guarantee its incorrectness! Grad school is hard. Furthermore, while worked solutions for textbook problems can be an important learning tool, they are also dangerous. I recommend you follow the principles explained in this video: https://youtu.be/HPsazrVSjl8. (It’s aimed at a lower level, but the ideas still stand). If you copy my solutions and turn them in, you will not learn how to do the problems, and you might get caught for plagiarism. Don’t cheat.
By using any of the textbook solutions to which I have linked above, you agree to hold Ben Levy blameless for any negative repercussions resulting from their use.
